The Admirals opened the 2003-2004 season in winning style beating the Knights 7-3 in a shootout that recalled the Admirals glory days. Leah Hiniker scored three straight goals for the Admirals and added one assist. Ahead 3-2 after the first period, the Admirals scored three more in the second to pull away. Brad Simon, Adrian Abramshuk, and Mike Lobinsky each added a goal apiece. Nick Kettner opened his assault on the Admirals PIM record books by taking two minor penalties. He atoned by scoring his first goal of the season. "The difference this year," according to Kyle Johnson, Admirals goalie, "is team speed. We're much faster this year, especially after Patel left the game with an injury in the second period"
In one game, the Admirals have reached one third of their victory total from last year. "If the Berquists can take shorter shifts, there's no telling how far this team can go" said Admirals assistant captain Adrian Abramshuk. Adrian improved on his breakaway percentage by hitting 1 goal out of 7 breakaways. "Last year, I wouldn't have gotten the goal on the breakaway" Abramshuk later noted.
The Admirals look to make it two games on the trot, when they play the Raiders next Sunday at the St. Paul Colisuem on Sunday Nov. 9 at 4.30pm. The Admirals were winless against the Raiders last year.
