Results early in the day left the Admirals in last place as they headed into their late-night tilt with the high-flying Roadrunners. The Admirals fell behind mid-way through the first period, before Dan Barber notched his first goal as an Admiral to even the score. After falling behind 2-1 in the second, the Admirals shut out the Roadrunners in the third period. Dan Barber scored again in the third to tie the game, and Ken Youngdahl set up Adrian Abramshuk's winner with just over 2 minutes to go. Rob Jones kept the Ads in the game with 48 saves as he endured yet another shooting gallery. In just 4 games, Rob has seen 190 shots -- proving the old Admirals adage that the goalies always get their money's worth. Team captain Apur Patel said the difference tonight was the new defensive pairing of Mike Berquist and Dan Berquist. "They were bickering so much back there, it distracted the Roadrunners forwards," he said. Not surprisingly, Sach Darji took his share of the credit for the win, despite the fact that he didn't play, "there's usually a strong correlation between me being out of town and the Admirals breaking out of a slump," he said in a telephone interview.
The Ads play in a charity exhibition versus the Battlecats on Saturday Dec. 11 at 8.45pm at Augsburg, before resuming regular season play against the Sting on Dec. 19. Ticket office manager Randy Williams has noted a strong run on tickets for the Sting game following the big win last night.
